Slow Fade

Have you heard that song "Slow Fade" by Casting Crowns? These are the lyrics.. so powerful. It just reminds us that our life does not just get out of control over night.. things happen sometimes slowly, we make choices everyday that affect what we will become. Why not live our lives the way God intended, sensative to the things he has taught us and obedient.

"Slow Fade"
Be careful little eyes what you see
It's the second glance that ties your hands as darkness pulls the strings
Be careful little feet where you go
For it's the little feet behind you that are sure to follow
It's a slow fade when you give yourself away
It's a slow fade when black and white have turned to gray
Thoughts invade, choices are made, a price will be paid
When you give yourself away
People never crumble in a day
It's a slow fade, it's a slow fade

Be careful little ears what you hear
When flattery leads to compromise, the end is always near
Be careful little lips what you say
For empty words and promises lead broken hearts astray
It's a slow fade when you give yourself away
It's a slow fade when black and white have turned to gray
Thoughts invade, choices are made, a price will be paid
When you give yourself away
People never crumble in a day

The journey from your mind to your hands
Is shorter than you're thinking
Be careful if you think you stand, You just might be sinking
It's a slow fade when you give yourself away
It's a slow fade when black and white have turned to gray
Thoughts invade, choices are made, a price will be paid
When you give yourself away
People never crumble in a day
Daddies never crumble in a day
Families never crumble in a day

Oh be careful little eyes what see
Oh be careful little eyes what you see
For the Father up above is looking down in love
Oh be careful little eyes what you see

Our family has witnessed compromise and the affects on families and on peoples lives. Its the kind of thing where they take 3 steps foward and 2 steps back..all the time. It doesn't mean we are gonna be perfect, we are human and we will make mistakes. The key is to come back to God and make the changes in your life so that you don't go back. Once Satan get's his foot in the door, he will find all kinds of ways to get you, and he is looking to get you. Stand strong in the Lord and do what is right, God will always be there to hold you up. Don't give in......

Olive oil...

As much as I love Olive Oil, I'd never heard how the olives are processed to make such a wonderful oil.. the awesome thing about it is, it draws a very close parallel to circumstances in our lives.. the ones that stretch us and refine us into the person God has designed us to be... this description came from a wonderful missionary woman who is a recent friend of ours... she sent this as an encouragement for our family..

"As I was working and thinking and praying I was coming around to you guys and your recent prayer request. I thought your area might be good for a field trip. Maybe you already know how olive oil is made. It has varying qualities. In the Tabernacle it was used to light the special lamps. It is also a symbol of the Holy Spirit Himself and of His work in our lives. The most pure (virgin) olive oil was used in the lamps for God. Perhaps you know that to get any olive to produce oil it has to be bruised. Then it has to be crushed and squeezed hard. It has to be refined. If its "virgin oil" that means its refined several times from special olives. I couldnt help but run a parallel in my mind to your situation. That sure sounds like the "virgin olive oil" to me! It is such a privelege to be used by Jesus and to burn brightly for Him, to have the Presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives and to know we are "on fire" for Jesus.. Not lukewarm nor tepid but really on fire.. This is true worship and is a fragrant offering to Jesus no matter what we are doing,. even cleaning the cobwebs and mold out of closets and shoes! Just a word of encouragement: The process does end and the oil is used in the lamps. One doesnt just keep on squeezing and squeezing nor being squeezed and refined. Its only one brief step in the necessary process of being used for Jesus. Dear Jesus, we ask for more oil Lord, and help us to burn brightly for you no matter what we are doing and no matter where we are. Amen."

I like the part that say's the sqeezing will stop! God bless.. hope this blesses you like it blessed me!

Psalms 37:34 chill....

So this verse was my Psalms for today in my daily Bible.. so many many times the passage for the day is appropriate for something in my life, in fact, it is always appropriate and fitting to something. Today this verse:

" Don't be impatient for the Lord to act! Travel steadily along his path, He will honor you, giving you the land. You will see the wicked destroyed."

Not sure where the "wicked destroyed" comes in, but the "don't be impatient" part totally applies. Aren't there times in your life when you wish God would just act quicker? I'm really wanting that, at this point. It is just so very hard to relax during a season in which you think God should be doing something.. funny thing is, He is doing something. I just know that His word is true and resting on that is the best for my life and the best for the situation.

I'm thankful today for all these things and more:

God's love and grace in my life and that of my family
My incredible husband and my best friend
My incredibly loving and awesome daughter, my 2nd best friend... who also keeps me laughing
My solid and loving son, my bud, so smart and studly and whom I am so proud...
God's provision for everything we need in our lives
God's protection from evil, all kinds, which we know surround us daily
the hope that we have to see Christ one day..

to be continued....

So now I begin my day. Not much today but a bit of work and a trip to the DMV, looking forward to the weekend and spending time with good friends. More tomorrow!

the house..

So, since people were asking, quite frequenty, about the house.. and about what we've been doing, I thought... why not start a blog... then I can update everyone.. at one time, on the progress of the house and all the happenings of the Flippo's.

Well, this photo was taken a couple of months ago, unfortuately the exterior still looks like this. But not much longer, Eric just finished piping the sprinklers for the front and is working on getting th pathways and patio slab cut and laid. We'd like to have all that done before it starts to rain, as the mud can be quite ridiculous. Last night we traced out the pathway around the front of the house that leads to the backyard and the patio. We also brainstormed on some ideas for an outdoor kitchen.. really looking forward to having that.. I love to BBQ!

This past 2 weeks Eric was able to be home more than normal. He and the carpenter's finished framing the dining room ceiling, installing a wall with a double french door slider between the dining room and the hallway, and finished the coffered ceiling in the hallway. They also opened up the powder bathroom into the hallway, instead of having it open into the Living Room, where it has been for the last 9 years.

We are already starting to be excited about the kitchen getting started.
Eric finished making the laundry room cabinets and they are gorgeous. We will be doing the same cabinets in the kitchen, I love them.
Things are definitely getting done, and we will all be so glad when things are a bit less dusty..
I am thankful though, my husband is so talented and loves the buiding process. Next time we do something like this, we won't be living in it.. lol..

More news about the farm animals.. we have 20 cows, 5 goats... and 1 horse.. our baby goat is getting big, horns and all! our 5 baby calves are grown and its getting hard to tell the babies from the other cows. Hopefully we will have more next spring...
